John Makinson
Chair
John Makinson has spent his career in the creative industries in the UK and the US. He was the Chairman and CEO of Penguin, the global book publisher, between 2002 and 2012 and subsequently the Chairman of Penguin Random House between 2012 and 2015. John is currently the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Bodleian Libraries in Oxford, a board member of Harvard University Press, and a Director of Mercy Corps, an international humanitarian organization. John was the Chairman of the National Theatre, between 2010 and 2016 , and earlier in his career served as the Managing Director of the Financial Times and as the Finance Director of Pearson plc.
Syima Aslam
Founder, CEO and Artistic Director
CEO and Artistic Director, Syima Aslam is the founder and Director of the Bradford Literature Festival (BLF), which she established in 2014. A 10-day literary and cultural celebration, BLF welcomes more than 150,000 visitors to Bradford annually and is celebrated as the most socio-economically and ethnically diverse literary festival in the UK.
Dr Bill Lawrence
Executive Director
Bill set up Reel Solutions in 2006 and is a board member and Finance Director at Manchester Animation Festival. Formerly Creative Director at Showroom Cinema, and Head of Film at the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, he was key to creating Bradford: City of Film, achieving the UNESCO designation in 2009. He has served on the boards of Creative England, Screen Yorkshire and the Media Centre, Huddersfield.

Shahzad Saleem

Shahzad Saleem is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Corporate Transformation Services. With more than 25 years of industry and consulting experience he specialises in corporate transformations and turnarounds. Previously he served as Managing Director of Transformation at BT leading one of the largest global cost outs saving ~£6bn. Most recently he served as Capita's Chief Procurement Officer. Shahzad Saleem earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences from Manchester University and an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School, where he was awarded the Global Citizen Award. He is a qualified accountant and has held several DEI posts including on the Race for Opportunities board, Race Champion at BT, judge at the WeQual Awards.
Andy Haldane
Chief Executive, Royal Society of Arts
Andrew Haldane is the Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). He was formerly Chief Economist at the Bank of England and a member of the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee. He was the Permanent Secretary for Levelling Up at the Cabinet Office from September 2021 to March 2022. Andrew is Founder and President of the charity Pro Bono Economics, Vice-Chair of the charity National Numeracy and Chair of the National Numeracy Leadership Council. Andrew chairs the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre's Industrial Board and the South Yorkshire Mayor's Economic Advisory Council. He was formerly Chair of the Government's Industrial Strategy Council and the Levelling Up Advisory Council. He is contributing editor at the Financial Times and Chief Economic Advisor at PwC. Among other positions, he is Honorary Professor at the Universities of Nottingham, Manchester and Exeter, Visiting Professor at King's College, London and a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Academy of Social Sciences. He has published over 150 academic articles and four books.

Previously Editor-in-Chief of Bloomsbury Publishing for over 20 years, Alexandra's authors have included Susanna Clarke, Richard Ford, Elizabeth Gilbert, Abdulrazak Gurnah, Khaled Hosseini, Jhumpa Lahiri, Colum McCann, Madeline Miller, Ann Patchett, George Saunders, Kamila Shamsie, Ahdaf Soueif and Patti Smith. She is a Patron of Index on Censorship and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She has been awarded Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Letters from Anglia Ruskin and Warwick Universities and is Visiting Professor at the Fiction Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University. She teaches writing masterclasses in Marrakech and London with Silk Road Slippers and is writing a memoir, Caravan, to be published in 2027 by Canongate in the UK and Summit Books, Simon & Schuster in the US.
Lady Lynne Morrison LLB
Lynne Morrison is a Leeds University Law Graduate and formerly a Commercial Property Partner at legal firm Gordons in Bradford. Originally from a farming background in Cumbria, Lynne now helps run her family farm near York. She is Chairman of the Governors at Bradford Grammar School.
Tim Duffy

In 1995, Tim became one of the founders of M&C Saatchi and helped build it into an integrated agency. He was appointed Chief Executive in 2004 and Chairman of the UK Group in 2009. He is Chair of the General Media Panel which advises the ASA, and chairs the Board of Free Word, an international cultural organisation promoting literature, literacy and freedom of expression.

Dawn Austwick
Dawn was Vice Chair of BLF from 2020-25 and is currently the Vice Chair of the London Marathon Foundation. She was formerly CEO of the National Lottery Community Fund and of the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. Prior to moving into the funding world she was the Deputy Director of the British Museum and Project Director for the creation of Tate Modern, for which she was awarded an OBE in 2000. She was also a Principal Consultant at KPMG and Theatre Manager at the Half Moon Theatre. Currently Dawn is a Trustee of the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, and of Scottish charity Wevolution, and is a Cultural Advocacy Fellow at Queen Margaret University.
