Experience the art of Illumination and discover the highly revered way of decorating manuscripts in this workshop.
The application of gold to books dates back to the 10th century and is still used by artists around the world today. In this fascinating workshop, Mahmud Manning will showcase examples of Illumination, or Tehzib, as it is known in the Arabic, Turkish, and Persian languages, and demonstrate how ancient techniques are used throughout many cultures and regions.
Yorkshire-based Manning is a master illuminator and his introduction to this intricate craft will explain how these skills and materials are used to bring beauty and colour to texts. You will also get the chance to decorate a manuscript page yourself and unleash your own creative side.
