A film about the life and times of Josh Malihabadi, one of history’s great Urdu poets. The film explores the grand themes of Josh’s poetry and uncovers the conflicts and controversies that his legacy faces today. 

Josh Malihabadi, popularly known as the Shayar-e-Inqalab (the poet of revolution), was one of the finest Urdu poets of the era of British India. Known for his liberal values and challenging the established order, he wrote over 100,000 couplets and more than 1,000 rubaiyat in his lifetime. 

Released in 2023 by directors, Fahim Hamid Ali and Ali Umair, the film stars Yousuf Kamal, Azra Mohiuddin and Rahil Siddiqui.  

This documentary film will be introduced by poet Atif Tauqeer.

Atif Tauqeer

Atif Tauqeer is a multifaceted Pakistani journalist, poet, writer, vlogger, and media researcher. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in mass communication from the University of Karachi, followed by a master’s in international media studies from the University of Bonn, Germany. Atif’s influence in Urdu literature has been significant since the early 1990s, with his poignant poem Shukria, penned in 1999, standing out for its critique of military intervention in politics. His literary contributions also include impactful works like Aytaraf (Confession), Talibani Darinday (Taliban Beasts), and Mutaliba (Demand). Atif Tauqeer continues to shape contemporary Urdu literature and media discourse with his insightful and provocative writings. He is currently working on an English novel.
