Globe Plotters: International Perspectives in Crime Fiction

Vaseem Khan, author of acclaimed crime series set in India, balances modern Mumbai with 1950s Bombay in his Baby Ganesh Agency and Malabar House novels, respectively. His debut, The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra, garnered praise, earning translation into 17 languages and recognition by the Sunday Times. Midnight at Malabar House clinched the Crime Writers Association Historical Dagger in 2021. Born in England and having worked a decade in India, Khan broke barriers as the first non-white Chair of the UK Crime Writers Association in 2023.

Alex Gray is the Sunday Times bestselling author of the Detective William Lorimer series. Born and raised in Glasgow, she has been awarded the Scottish Association of Writers’ Constable and Pitlochry trophies for her crime writing and is the co-founder of the international Bloody Scotland Crime Writing Festival.

Dr Sarah Hussain is a Huddersfield based author and educator. Her novella, Escaped from Syria was a winner finalist in the People’s Book Prize Award. In 2018 she won the Ms Shakespeare competition in Yorkshire and was commissioned to write a monologue, which was performed on International Women’s day. She was shortlisted in a competition run by The University of Huddersfield, and her short story, You will be free one day, my dearest India, is included in the anthology Trouble, published by Grist. She completed a BA Honours Arts of Literature, a Master of Arts in Creative Writing, and recently completed a PhD.

Saeida Rouass is a British author of Moroccan heritage. Her novels include Eighteen Days of Spring in Winter and Assembly of the Dead. She has contributed to anthologies including Our Morocco, The Ordinary Chaos of Being Human, and We Wrote in Symbols and written for Newsweek and The Independent. She is currently working on a dark comedy feature script with documentary film maker Masood Khan about polygamy in Muslim communities.
