Hosted by Ian Stafford of Bradford Bulls, this event will offer an opportunity to delve into the lives and experiences of two esteemed figures from Yorkshire’s Rugby League, Robbie Hunter-Paul and Ikram Butt. 

Hunter-Paul’s illustrious, 19-season career playing for Britain’s top Rugby League clubs and his tenure as CEO at Bradford Bulls will provide a wealth of stories and insights into the sport. So, too, will Butt’s ground-breaking achievement as the first British Muslim to represent England in Rugby, overcoming prejudice and inspiring a generation of young people to pursue their dreams. 

Enjoy anecdotes, observations and reflections from these revered players, shedding light on the dedication, passion, and challenges that accompany ‘A Life in the League.’

Ikram Butt

Dr Ikram Butt made history by becoming the first British Muslim to represent England at either code of rugby. He set up the South Asia Bulls and the British Asian Rugby Association (BARA), with the aim of encouraging more young people, particularly Asians, to participate in sport and benefit from the values it instils. He’s also an ambassador for Sport Campaign Against Racism (SCAR) and the British Asian Trust. Today, as a social activist, he is actively involved in speaking out for those who face oppression in all its forms.

Robbie Hunter-Paul, the former New Zealand International Rugby player led his professional club, Bradford Bulls to four Super League, two Challenge Cups, three World Club titles, in the pressure cooker that is a professional sport.He now heads up digital marketing company ‘Xtra Mile Marketing’ and is part of the punditry team for BBC Sport’s Challenge Cup, Super League and International Rugby League televised coverage.
