About the Authors
Abir Mukherjee
Abir Mukherjee grew up in the West of Scotland. At the age of fifteen, his best friend made him read Gorky Park and he’s been a fan of crime fiction ever since. The child of immigrants from India, A Rising Man, his debut novel, was inspired by a desire to learn more about this crucial period in Anglo-Indian history that seems to have been almost forgotten. It won the Harvill Secker/Daily Telegraph crime writing competition and is the first in a new series starring Captain Sam Wyndham and ‘Surrender-Not’ Banerjee. Abir lives in London with his wife and two sons.
Vaseem Khan
Vaseem Khan, author of acclaimed crime series set in India, balances modern Mumbai with 1950s Bombay in his Baby Ganesh Agency and Malabar House novels, respectively. His debut, The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra, garnered praise, earning translation into 17 languages and recognition by the Sunday Times. Midnight at Malabar House clinched the Crime Writers Association Historical Dagger in 2021. Born in England and having worked a decade in India, Khan broke barriers as the first non-white Chair of the UK Crime Writers Association in 2023.
Denise Mina
Denise Mina is the author of the Garnethill trilogy, the Paddy Meehan series and the Alex Morrow series. She has won the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award twice and was inducted into the Crime Writers’ Association Hall of Fame in 2014. The Long Drop, her latest novel, won the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year and the Gordon Burn Prize. Denise has also written plays and graphic novels, and presented television and radio programmes. She lives and works in Glasgow.
Ajay Chowdhury
Ajay Chowdhury is a businessman and theatre director. He started directing plays in India and now runs a theatre company in London. He has served on various boards, including Arts Council England and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in the UK. His first crime novel in the Kamil Rahman series The Waiter was published in 2021 and was named the Sunday Times crime book of the month and has been optioned for television. Its follow up The Cook,came out in 2022, to strong reviews and he is currently working on the next book in the series, due to be published in 2023. Chowdhury won the inaugural Harvill Secker and Bloody Scotland competition with Arvon to find a new crime writer from a BAME (black, Asian, minority ethnic) background with his detective-turned-waiter murder mystery.
